Meet Rebecca Kassabian
“I consider our committed relationships to be like homes. They can be stable, secure places to return to and help us feel empowered, understood and to like ourselves when nurtured. On the flip side, the lack of them or the disruption in them can make us feel unmoored and impact the way we feel about ourselves and relate to our community and world.
I try to tailor my approach to what couples seem to need. In all sessions, I preface the work by explaining I take a two-pronged approach. First by contextualizing issues and then by providing concrete feedback and skills to practice, I’m able to help build up the foundations of connection between people. My style is patient, genuine and kind with a focus on each person’s strengths.
In addition to focusing on work with couples, I’ve also done traditional therapy with individuals and community outreach, crisis intervention and social-justice oriented work. I have completed trainings in trauma informed care, risk assessment, DBT, CBT, sexuality/ intimacy, and LGBTQ+ affirming care.
As a result of my experiences, I believe our interpersonal relationships are the backbone of both our individual mental health and of how society functions on a larger scale. If we can’t communicate, show empathy, trust, and rely on our partners, loved ones or community – distress typically follows.
Identifying the areas in which there are issues, exploring the roots of said issues and learning how to feel more empowered over emotions and how to communicate about them typically is what leads to stronger, healthier relationships.”
