Can we afford this?

Our commitment to you is to work to help make this process affordable. We’ve made sure to carefully set our fees to match what others in our area are charging. We also work with couples to find payment schedules that feel comfortable and we’re happy to adjust the pace of therapy so the financial investment feels doable.

A Return on Investment!

When you start couples counseling you are making an intentional investment in your relationship. You are committing funds, you are committing time, and you are committing energy. It’s actually quite a romantic gesture to each other! We’ve specialized in relationship science so you can feel safe and confident in who you are trusting your investment too.

Do You Take Insurance?

No (and yes!)

We are not “in-network” with health insurance companies and do NOT accept copays.

However, we are considered an out-of-network provider for most private insurance policies, which means about 50%-60% of our clients can typically get some type of reimbursement for our services.

You’ll want to call your insurance provider to see what your out-of-network benefits are for mental health counseling. At the end of each month, we can send you a summary of all of your payments (called a superbill) for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Most of our clients who submit to their insurance company for reimbursement find that they’ll get 25%-90% of our fees back once they meet their out-of-network deductible. What About HSAs?

Yes, because we’re fully licensed and credentialed, we are able to accept Health Savings Account (HSA) cards for payment.

We recommend this option for those clients with high out-of-network deductibles so you can save by paying for our services with your pre-tax dollars.

How Much Will It Cost?

Fees varies by therapist and location:

Maryland & DC: $195-$250 per counseling hour
Northern Virginia: $195-$250 per counseling hour
Central Virginia: $175-$225 per counseling hour

North Carolina: $175-$195 per counseling hour
South Carolina: $175-$195 per counseling hour
Florida: $195-$235 per counseling hour

Couples counseling typically starts with weekly sessions to break problematic cycles and generate positive momentum. As you make progress towards your goals, couples typically move to every other week sessions and then once a month sessions as you’re wrapping up. For most couples, when they see the process through and look back, they’ve invested on average between $375 – $475 a month in their relationship over the course of 5-10 months.

We Require a Deposit to Get Started

When you book with us, we are reserving an appointment time specifically for you. We ask for a deposit of your therapist’s hourly rate to lock in your appointment. We will refund your deposit (minus a $35 administrative fee) if you cancel at least 48 hours prior to your appointment. Once we are within 48 hours the full initial assessment fee is due.

Please note that our Couples Assessments are extended sessions of 90 minutes so we ask that you please take booking seriously because cancelling last minute leaves a larger hole in our therapist’s schedules that is harder to fill.

How Long Will It Take?

You should expect to invest somewhere between 12-25 sessions over the course of 5-10 months to truly address and heal the root causes of your relationship difficulty. Every relationship is different, however, and some situations take more or less time. You’ll see your therapist often in the early stages of your work together, usually once a week, and then will taper off to once or twice a month as your relationship strengthens and you near the end of your course of therapy.

How Long Are the Sessions?

We slow things down in your initial consultation and take great care in making sure we get off to a strong start. Your initial consultation appointment is scheduled for 90 minutes. After that, couples sessions typically run for 50 minutes.
