Sara Loughlin, LCSW
/in California Telehealth, Dana Point, Glendale, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Santa Monica California /by Chet Denlinger
Sara Loughlin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 15 years of experience working with couples and individuals. She utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and several other evidence-based techniques, tailored to your specific strengths and relationship. Sara specializes in working with couples who have experienced an affair, high conflict couples, anxiety, communication problems, and parenting issues. “As a couples specialist, my style is direct and active. You can expect a warm, non-judgmental experience where I will slow you down when necessary and provide immediate feedback. I tend to approach things from a constructive, solution-focused perspective so I’m always trying to create a healthier way for you to connect with each other during the session. We may even laugh together as humor can be very healing when appropriate! Relationships often get into trouble due to communication issues but other factors like underlying trauma, today’s fast-paced society, not prioritizing the relationship (this happens a lot when people have kids), wanting a partner to change without awareness of your own role, and financial issues are all common contributors as well. We sometimes expect our intimate relationship to provide all our happiness and fulfillment, but I believe relationships work best when each partner also has friends, hobbies, and things that personally fulfill them outside of their marriage. I really like to get in there and help couples find solutions to their stuck points instead of going in circles. My goal is to ensure each person in the couple will be able to express themselves and feel heard, but also for the sessions to be productive.”

Donna Shanahan, LMFT
/in California Telehealth, Dana Point, Glendale, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Pasadena, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, Temecula, Valencia California /by Chet Denlinger
Donna Shanahan is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience serving couples and families. She works with all couples and relationships including couples who have experienced an affair, couples who are “fighting all the time”, and couples who have lost that “spark” for each other. Helping couples is not just an area of specialty for Donna, it is her life’s work. “I believe that balance and equality between partners are at the core of relational harmony. Whether it’s been years of tough times or you’re in shock from an event such as an affair, I am here to help you achieve a level of connection in your relationship that allows you to express yourselves without fear, blame, anger, or retaliation. My hope for marriage is that it can grow better and stronger if each partner is committed to working on it individually and together. This work is not just day-to-day—it’s minute by minute. You’ll find me to be an active therapist, someone who is in there with you. Marriage is a partnership. It teaches people to work with one another, to compromise, to think of others and not just themselves. Figuring out how to mend things is challenging. How to get from here to there is not an overnight journey. But I’ve made it my life’s work to know how to guide you on this path, and I have helped many couples reconnect in ways they could not have imagined when they started.”
